Welcome Back: Making the Transition

Welcome Back: Making the Transition

The school year is just around the corner, which means the season of fun and relaxation is drawing to a close. For your kids, the end of summer and the start of a new school year can be a bit of a mixed bag — they’re excited to see all their friends, but transitioning from unstructured days of fun to structured days in school can be a challenge. Orlando private schools have a few tips to help your kids transition from summer to a new school year as successfully as possible.

Start Establishing Routines

It’s easy for your kids’ sleep schedules to get a bit out of whack during the summer. After all, they don’t typically have to be somewhere by a designated time for the majority of summer break. However, instead of letting them wait to start waking up on time, establish a morning routine a few weeks before the first day of school. This way, they can ease into waking up earlier, which will help them wake up more naturally and be more alert once classes begin.

Listen to Their Concerns

While we hope that your kids are looking forward to a new year of learning, it’s normal for them to feel a certain degree of anxiety before school starts. Encourage your kids to talk about how they’re feeling. If there’s a particular point of stress or concern they have, develop a strategy to tackle it together. The more you can pinpoint the source of stress, the more likely you are to help your child develop strategies to overcome their anxiety.

Help Them Set Goals for the Coming Year

A new school year is the perfect time to start making new goals. Maybe your child discovered a new hobby or passion over the summer that they wish to pursue during the school year, or perhaps they want to become the leader of a club or make it onto a new sports team. Whatever their dreams are, help them set their goals for the year and develop tactics to help them achieve those goals. The more focused they are on a particular goal, the more excited they’ll be to return to their Orlando private school.
