Calling all parts of speech. . . It’s time for the LFPS Annual Word Market! On March 25th, our 1st-5th graders will be ready to shop for words! The Word Market is a day-long event that increases students’ knowledge of English grammar, builds team spirit, and creates healthy competition. During the Word Market, teams of student shoppers buy (with Word Market money) cards that have parts of speech, punctuation, suffixes, prefixes, and capital letters written on them. Each team then combines these cards into as grammatically correct a sentence as they can. There is a point value for each card, and when the team is finished constructing their sentence, the points are added up. It is so exciting to see the expressions on the faces of these teams when they have made a sentence that is 6 feet long!
