Sometimes, fall in Florida doesn’t feel like fall. With warm weather often creeping well into November, it sometimes feels like Florida skips the fall season altogether. Even though the weather may not match, you can still create cozy memories with your family! Here are a few family-friendly ideas to help you celebrate fall in Florida:
Outdoor Adventures
Pumpkin patches and corn mazes make their grand entrance in Florida around the end of September and into early October. For a classic evening of fall fun, pack the family up and visit one of these local experiences. Florida is known for its beautiful nature, and fall is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors! While you may not see falling leaves, you can still enjoy the slightly cooler weather by visiting a state park and going for a picnic, hike or bike ride. Or, celebrate like a true Floridian and enjoy a day at the beach. It’s not most people’s version of a fall day, but in Florida, nothing beats a breezy day at the beach with no crowds.
Seasonal Crafts and DIYs
With warm colors, pumpkins, leaves and pinecones, fall is one of the best seasons for crafts and DIY fun! Decorate mini pumpkins with paint, stickers and glitter, or go traditional and have a family pumpkin carving contest. Take a trip to the craft store and get all the fake leaves and pinecones you can find to make cute leaf garlands and wreaths. The construction paper turkey or painted handprint tree is always a classic! If the leaves are falling, you can step outside and try to find unique ones to make leaf rubbings; just place a sheet of paper over the leaves and rub crayons on it to reveal the leaves’ texture.
Festivals and Community Events
During the fall, some of the most fun festivals and fairs come to town. They often have hayrides, live music, and plenty of games and activities for the whole family to enjoy. Plus, there’s no shortage of delicious food and drinks!
Beyond festivals and fairs, communities often put on local events like farmers’ markets and arts and crafts shows. At these events, you can find seasonal produce to make delicious fall dishes or beautiful handmade items to decorate your home. Even if you don’t buy anything, spending the day walking around in the community together makes for some meaningful family memories.
At-Home Family Fun
Some of the best quality time with family happens right at home. Get into the fall spirit by having a family game night or movie night with apple cider and pumpkin-themed treats. Or, skip the games and movies, and make an activity out of baking a few batches of fall-themed goodies together, like pumpkin pie and gingerbread cookies. Enjoy the outdoors while still near the comfort of home by having a backyard campout with a fire pit, s’mores and storytelling.
Giving Back Together
Fall is usually when people start getting into the thankful spirit. It’s also when people feel generous since the holidays are around the corner. This is the perfect time to give back to the community as a family. Participate in a local food drive, volunteer at a shelter or collect gently used items to donate to charity. Sometimes the most fun way of celebrating the fall season is by bringing joy and comfort to others, and it’s best done with family.
Even though fall in Florida may look a little different, you can still enjoy the season by connecting with your family. No matter the activity, what makes it special is the time spent together.
