3 Ways to Help Your Child’s Love of Learning

In many schools today, we see standardized testing has become a major tool in measuring students’ learning and where they stand academically. On the other hand, fostering our children’s love of learning seems to be pushed back further and further. Orlando private school, Lake Forrest Prep, believes both teachers and parents can work together to help our children’s love of learning flourish once again.

  • Work with Technology, Not Against it: Rather than preventing our students from using their iPads or other forms of technology, encourage them to incorporate it into their studying. In today’s society, most students are more interested in learning something new through an iPad than through a traditional book. Certain applications can help reinforce and improve students’ learning.
  • Encourage Reading, Not Just Homework: Students of all grades can be faced with excessive amounts of homework that may seem endless. Teachers can assign reading logs to encourage reading outside of the classroom. Doing so can encourage reading to be an activity students are willing partake in and improve their learning levels.
  • Work with Kids’ Interests: When you work with children’s natural interests, their academic skills will be better established and will grow. For instance, having students choose their own research paper topic can encourage studying skills as the topic keeps them interested. Having an interest in a certain topic makes it more enjoyable and easier to comprehend.

At times, we may forget that students can face difficulty in their classes. Homework and assignments that pile up can be overwhelming, which in turn makes students feel like they’re at a loss. Lake Forrest Prep is a private school in Orlando that strives to motivate our students by helping them enjoy what they learn and take an interest in the subjects.
